In September it was finally time for the second Youngtimer Vestival this year. Sadly, this day was to be cursed by heavy rain fall, but I just had to attent the show, as I knew these two cars would be there. The Mantas from the German car movie ‘Manta Manta’ from 1991. Every German car guy knows this movie. I grew up with this movie and I have to admit these two cars were my dream cars for a long time while growing up. They still hold a dear place in my heart and it was an amazing experience to finally see them in the flesh.
Shortly after that, I visited the historical Vossenack hill climb race. A cool event, especially as it is rather local to me and I didn’t know we had such amazing roads here. I will have to hit up a few more hill climb events next year!
Next up was the DMPD BBQ, where I shot Nico’s bagged A6. It was a cool event and it was great to meet a few new people.
The final event for 2013 was the Essen Motor Show. This was certainly a surprise. The last time I visited Essen was around 10 years ago and back then it was basically a huge collection of tacky mods and questionable vendors. But my attendance this year has changed my mind about this show – it’s finally back on track and a great experience for any car guy. This event also finally marked my move to a full frame camera, as I bought a Canon Eos 5D a few days prior to replace my trusty 400D and 450D. I haven’t looked back since, full frame is amazing, in my opinion.
In hindsight, I’ve had a rather busy year. I have to admit, it all kind of blurs together. Together with work, this was an intense year. But I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. This is what I love. I live and breathe cars. And if I can share that passion with some readers out there, all the better.
I wish you guys a happy new year!
