2013 – A RECAP

IMG_9655Next up was the annual US Car meet, just twenty minutes away from where I’m located. This meet has been going on for a few years now and I’ve visited it for the second time now. It’s always cool to have a look at what the german US Car drivers are doing, even though some bits of the german US car scene are rather outlandish. Many of these guys and gals try to emulate the american way of life as they know it – which is apparently mostly from old TV shows, so it ends up being rather tacky. It is still somewhat charming in a rather odd way.

IMG_4473In May it was finally time for the first of the two annual Youngtimer Vestivals. I have run various articles about this show already in the past two years, but I now realize that while I attended both shows this year, I didn’t post either, which is a crime. I will be posting some of the interesting cars on Facebook soon. Take this amazing M60 swapped E28 as a taste of things to come… I had never before entertained the thought of a V8 swapped E28, but after I saw this car it’s become one of my biggest dreams.

IMG_4560I love this event for bringing out some of the most unique cars you will ever see. For example this – a Jetta Country. VW offered the Golf Mk2 as a pseudo-offroader called the Golf Country, but the Jetta never received this treatment. This is a home-built combination of both and it is rather awesome to see, as the Golf Country is rather rare in itself.

IMG_4758-BearbeitetA short while after, it was finally time to go visit Eurosunday in Belgium. This show sadly didn’t happen in 2012, after a great event in 2011, so I was really happy to see it on the calender again. The show didn’t dissappoint and I would heartily suggest it to anyone looking to visit a event in Belgium.

IMG_4708-BearbeitetIt is amazing how many unique cars roll out to this show. Of course, the majority will be dropped Golfs or other run of the mill cars, but you’ll find lots of unique examples there, like this slammed Peugeot 306.

Some friends wanted to visit the VW Days in France. Having seen a few videos of this event, I was game to join them. And it was a great decision. It is an incredibly huge show, I don’t think my feet ever hurt so much after a car show, but it was completely worth it. A great road trip with good friends, seeing amazing cars, having a good time. This is the stuff that makes great memories.

IMG_5285It was also very heartening to see that the French are very open when it comes to letting cars of other marques into their show. I actually attended with the Touring and I wasn’t the only BMW in attendance, although the others were of a older vintage, being a trio of amazing E21s and a really clean E28. My two favorite cars of the show had to be the two Porsches above though. A bagged Boxter? Mindblowing and never seen before. And the Rotiform Porsche is just amazing, along with the story behind it. Such a crazy thing to do, to ship your car from the US to the UK to have it painted there and then hit up various shows all over Europe only to ship the car back to the US after the summer is over. Crazy but amazing.
